ERNESTO CARDENAL, a „Luminary of the Revolution“: Poet, priest,
former Minister of Culture, revolutionary – all this embodies this
greatest poet of Nicaragua. ANTOSCHKA met with Ernesto Cardenal to talk
with him about love, his moving poetry, but also the current situation
in Nicaragua.
|
| Really fascinating, the youthfulness with which the 82 year old
tells of his life and loves, but also of his disappointment with the
current situation in his country. He fought together with Ortega to
overthrow the dictator Somoza. He became Minister of Culture. Today
Ortega is again President, but Ernesto Cardenal is very disappointed
about him: “Ortega was previously a revolutionary, but not anymore.
Today he is only interested in power and his wife”, thinks Ernesto
Cardenal about his former companion. |
Antoschka promised Ernesto Cardenal to contribute herself for the
people of Nicaragua and to create a project (connected with Micro
Finance) to turn “development into independence” because Nicaragua is
still one of the poorest countries in the world.
|
The WORLD PARLIAMENT OF CLOWNS is doing research on the possibility
of leasing acreage and giving this land to the poorest of the poor.
They should then farm the land (i.e. cotton cultivation) and use a
‘part of the profit’ to buy land at a later date. Together with an
organization in Nicaragua ( perhaps Pan y Arte, founded by the actor
Dietmar Schoenherr / Clown d’Honneur) the farmers should receive
support in marketing their products.
